My wife and I just got back from Europe. We flew there mainly to
see Savatage in concert. We went to the Paris and Dusseldorf
concerts. The Paris show was absolutely mind-boggling.
Some serious ass was kicked. This was the best concert I've
ever seen. The band was having so much fun, and so was the
audience. The energy in the room was incredible. Jon and Zack
were holding an informal "Evil Laugh" contest that was really
fun. Jon was using his eyes to flirt with my wife, (and
probably other girls in the audience). Jon's voice was in
EXCELLENT form, and he unexpectedly sang lots of oldies.
He was just on an incredible roll, and the audience loved it.
I think that perhaps Zak was a bit jealous that night.

The Dusseldorf show was not as good as Paris. It was still
good, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the Paris show, because
(a) It was TEN times louder and killing my ears,
(b) The band wasn't having as much fun. Perhaps they were
weary from the long days of traveling and long nights playing.
The highlight of the Dusseldorf show was Zak's rendition
of HotMK. Zak gave the audience a spine-chilling performance
that was absolutely fantastic.

Jon announced in the Dusseldorf show that they were hoping to
release a new Savatage album in May of 99. I can't wait!
