I'm assumming you said, aren't earplugs necessary for those who go to a great many concerts per year, and that one or two concerts isn't going to damage hearing??
Nope. It only takes one good sound at sufficient decibel levels to permanently damage hearing. It makes it more necessary to wear hearing protection if you only attend one or two loud events per year because your hearing is only used to soft noises. Then it gets hammered to death by one night of 100+ db levels. buh bye hearing.
They had a show a while ago where these eskimos lived in almost absolute silence most of their lives except for the sound of wind and people. Yet almost all the males were completely deaf, cuz once every so often they would go seal hunting. The guns they were using produced one, incredibly loud explosion every few hours as they hunted. That's all it takes.
Ok, I think we've just about covered the ear protection thing to death and beyond now.
